Strathmere Free Boat Ramp Saved!

The Taylor Ave free boat ramp will remain open!

After a tense couple of weeks, where the future of the Taylor Avenue boat ramp was in question, the town got together and got to work.  Through numerous emails, phone calls and face to face meetings we worked together to show how important the free boat ramp is to Strathmere.  Our Upper Township politicians listened to the voice of the people. So a big thank you to everyone, both politicians and citizens, who were involved in this decision.  It’s great to see we can work together for the good of Strathmere!

Looking Forward to Spring

We’ve finally had a few decent days, weather-wise, and we are looking forward to spring here at Whale Creek Marina.  Here’s hoping the pipes don’t freeze any more this winter…

After the Storm

It happened that Winter Storm Jonas hit as the tides were already going to be high (since it was near to a full moon).  There was a lot of high water but Whale Creek Marina will be fine after a few minor repairs.  In the middle of the storm, we were called away to help with the fire in Sea Isle City at the Avalon coffee shop.  It’s good to see how many people came out to help.  Well done Strathmere Fire and Rescue, as well as the other departments that helped fight the fire.

Hello from Whale Creek in the Wintertime!

Whale Creek Marina is closed during the winter, but the shore is still a happening, beautiful place.  Sea Isle City’s Polar Bear Plunge is just a month away!  It’s also a great time of year for oystering, and the weather has been perfect for it.  Remember only eat locally harvested raw oysters in months with an ‘R.’

The word around town is that Corson’s Inlet is going to be dredged soon.  Keep your fingers crossed – it would be a real boon for boaters and fishermen, and everyone who wants to keep enjoying the back bays near Ocean City and Strathmere.

Happy new year from Whale Creek!

Thanks for Another Wonderful Season!

We at Whale Creek Marina would like to thank everyone, customers and friends, for another wonderful season.  We are closed now, but are open by appointment, so contact us and let us know if you’d like to stop in.  Thank you for your business!  We’ll see you in the spring, but check back once in a while, as we’ll still be updating our blog over the winter with news from Whale Creek and photos of WCM in the fall, winter and spring.

Fishing Report 6/12/14: In the surf …

Fishing Report 6/12/14: In the surf kingfish have shown up and are being caught on bloodworms. Stripers are still being picked using fresh clam if you can get through the dogfish. Back bay has been awesome – stripers, bluefish, weakfish and flounder are abundant. The general caught this 26 incher on live EEL!! The back bays behind Ocean City and Strathmere are alive and our rental boats are doing great.
